TV Drama formats:
Single drama- used to be staple of tv. it is a one off story. Based on topical issues/ based on true stories/ made for tv not cinema. tv movie.
Series- broadcast regularly once a week, same characters, different stories each episode.
Serials-same characters/locations, episode incomplete until the next episode, encouraging to watch again. serial narrative carry more than one storyline.
Soaps- Emotional drama, have multiple characters who have many storylines, carry on for weeks/months to come to a conclusion.

Narrative form
is the structure though which movies tell stories
Narratives appear throughout media an society/// most common in fiction film but appear in basic films
a narrative is a string of events occurring in space and time
they do not unfold randomly but n order
the logic of cause and effect tie together character traits obstacle actions
there a flashback about how their parents meet and their marriage
the kids go to school the next day
the parents get called on a mission
Narrative structure
Act I- setup-
Act II- confrontation-
Act III - resolution
setup- meeting the character, finding the setting, setting the tone,
rising action- central conflict introduced, tension between protagonist and antagonist begins, other events happen.
climax- the turing point, protagonist future
falling action- major action has happened, the aftermath, sorting out conflict
resolution- the creation of new normal, conflict resolved
situation- exposition
changes occur
new situation arises through conflict/choice restores narrative
new story equilibrium results in character change

Traits- attitude, skills, habits, tastes, psychological drives and other qualities
Traits in opening scene are relevant to later scene this is to cause an effect

Goals and Obstacles
Locating treasure looking for love.
Character encounter obstacles in pursuing these goals collision of goals and obstacles create conflict and thus drama.
Choices
characters create and cause and effect through choices that lead to conflict and consequence. these are used so that viewers understand. character posses traits, face conflicts, make choices and undergo changes that enable or hinder of a specific goal
